Reigning W series champion, Jamie Chadwick, has joined Extreme E for 2021. Veloce Racing has announced Chadwick as their first driver for the new sport that will debut in March.

How this may impact Chadwick’s continued partnership with Williams as part of their Driver Academy program is unknown. The W Series also will run again in 2021 after missing 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jamie could have quite the busy year.

Chadwick already has involvement with Veloce, where she is a brand ambassador as well as competing in eSports with them earlier this year. The promotion from ambassador to race driver as part of a forward-thinking, environmentally focussed series fills Chadwick with pride.

In Veloce’s press announcement, the 22-year old Brit said: “I am proud to be driving for Veloce Racing in such a revolutionary championship as Extreme E! I have been involved with Veloce for a very long time and they are like a family to me, so I am incredibly honoured to be their female driver for what is such an exciting and important race series.”

Jamie has already had time in the ODYSSEY 21 Extreme car after a shakedown in France earlier this month. It’s not Chadwick’s only experience of electric racing. She has also tested for two formula E teams in the past. Veloce Racing are set to give Chadwick further time in the car next month too.

Is it W Series or Extreme E for Jamie Chadwick?

With the W series calendar still not unveiled, it’s unknown whether Chadwick will miss any events as she defends her crown. The only news we have is that the championship will share eight rounds of Formula One.

When comparing the Extreme E and F1 calendars, there are three weekends when both race. The season opener for both, Australia for F1 and Saudi Arabia for E-E, is on 21st March. With W Series being European based in 2019, we do not expect the sport to visit Australia, however.

But Extreme E’s Greenland event runs on the same weekend as F1 visits Spa at the end of August which may cause conflict. The final crossover is when F1 is racing at Austin and Extreme E visits Brazil.
