The good news keeps on rolling in for Ralph Boschung. After securing an F2 seat for 2021, the Swiss driver will be jumping in at Campos early. The team will race him at Sakhir alongside Samaia in Jack Aitken’s absence.
Since Lewis Hamilton returned a positive COVID-19 test, a Rube Goldberg of connections have fallen into place. George Russell will fill in for Hamilton at Sakhir leaving Williams without a driver. With Nissany and Aitken available and already in Bahrain, this wasn’t a major hurdle and the Grove-based constructor promptly gave Aitken the nod.
With Aitken racing in F1 for at least this weekend, Campos were the final link in the chain. With the timing of them announcing Boschung for next season, it isn’t a huge surprise that the 23-year old will race for the Spanish team.
Boschung, of course, started his F2 career with Campos and is mighty familiar with the Dallara F2. He raced it in 2018 with MP Motorsport and in 2019 with Trident.
Should Boschung snatch a point over the Sakhir GP race weekend, he would jump ahead of Guilherme Samaia in the sister Campos, should the Brazillian continue his point-less 2020 season. Whether its shame for Samaia or the glory for Boschung that is the bigger dangling carrot on a stick we will find out soon.
