After four years of sponsoring the most recognisable livery on the grid, the days of BWT turning the Silverstone team into the pink panthers looks to be over. Aston Martin have given the strongest hints yet that they will race in green in 2021.
Since Aston Martin’s commercial takeover, many expected the rebranded Racing Point team to adorn “British racing green”. The first images from Silverstone suggest just that for Aston’s first F1 outing in sixty years.
Highlighting just how deep into the off-season we currently are, news of a title sponsor for the team set the Internet into a frenzy. The lacklustre logo for US IT consultancy company, Cognizant Technology Solutions, will be plastered over both cars this year. From a fan perspective, that’s little to get excited over, but promotional images emerged that suggest green is back.
A render of what could either be the 2020 or 2021 car or a screenshot from the F1 2020 game spread on social media. With the vignette level set to around 750%, the Cognizant name appears overlaid on a deep green single-seater. You may need to turn your screen brightness up to “power of the sun” level to see the colours, however.
Further fuel to the mean green Aston Martin 2021 machine was added with driver portrait shots, too. Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll had close-up photos circulated in rather plain looking overalls. Albeit, only the velcro neck section was shown, but what-do-ya-know, it’s also green!
Although I can’t deny seeing green return to the sport is quite the prospect, something else stood out to me instead. Although I’m forever surprised at how young Lance Stroll is (22, to save you a Google), he looks positively baby against Vettel in these shots. Seb is older, of course… by 50%, scarily. But the two side-by-side shots look like a uni freshman and his lecturer side-by-side. Remember kids, never do drugs or a half-decade at Ferrari.
